Ethics in Nursing Practice

Ethical decision-making is a fundamental component of professional nursing practice and directly influences patient care, safety, advocacy, and healthcare outcomes. Nurses encounter ethical dilemmas in a variety of healthcare settings, requiring the integration of professional values, ethical principles, legal standards, and evidence-based practice. Ethical challenges may arise when balancing patient autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, confidentiality, informed consent, end-of-life care, and allocation of healthcare resources. 

This continuing nursing education activity provides an evidence-based review of ethical principles, professional responsibilities, ethical decision-making frameworks, patient advocacy, and contemporary ethical issues affecting nursing practice. Participants will examine ethical standards established by the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics and apply ethical principles to real-world clinical situations. 

Through case studies and practical applications, nurses will strengthen their ability to recognize ethical dilemmas, evaluate competing values, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, and promote ethical patient-centered care. This course supports professional accountability and ethical competence in contemporary healthcare environments.
